Europe’s AI Conundrum: Watch the Brussels Economic Forum 2026

The article discusses the upcoming Brussels Economic Forum in 2026, focusing on the challenges and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence in Europe. It highlights key topics that will be addressed during the forum, including regulatory frameworks and technological advancements.

The annual Brussels Economic Forum will center on artificial intelligence and Europe's role in the global AI economy amid economic and geopolitical challenges.

The Brussels Economic Forum (BEF) is the European Commission’s flagship economic event held annually. For over 25 years, it has gathered political leaders, business representatives, civil society, academics, and key economic actors for forward-looking discussions on major issues shaping the economy.

This year, artificial intelligence is the main topic. AI is no longer solely a technological issue but is rapidly becoming an economic imperative, influencing jobs, productivity, competitiveness, and regulation worldwide. The 26th edition of the Brussels Economic Forum is dedicated to AI and Europe’s standing in the global race.

Hosted by Euronews journalists Méabh Mc Mahon and Sasha Vakulina, the forum will convene leading economists, members of the European Parliament, business leaders, and AI experts to discuss “The EU’s AI Economy in the Global Race.”

Set against a backdrop of geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainty, and growing global competition, the event will examine how AI is transforming Europe’s economy and whether the EU can keep pace in the global AI race.

Keynote speeches and high-level discussions will feature political, economic, and industry figures, including Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden, EU Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, economists Philippe Aghion and Louise Burke, as well as senior representatives from business, trade unions, and academia.

As Brussels works to define its role in the AI era, this year’s Brussels Economic Forum is expected to be among the most significant economic discussions of 2026.
